Spring 2013 Workshops

The Thread of Shakti: The Path to Everyday Bliss
The thread of shakti does not exist in the past or the future; it is only in the present moment. It is the shakti of the whole universe, but you learn to find the thread that is uniquely you. You learn to listen to the full expression of the self.
To find the thread of shakti, you must learn deep inner listening, so you begin to hear the rhythm of the universe, the rhythm of your heart, the rhythm of your life. You learn to listen for the next right thing to do and to make choices from this sacred space. Whether your heart is overflowing or your heart is breaking, this connection is what makes you aware of the ongoing presence of joy. It allows you to feel that thread of love that runs through everything.
Join Swami Jaya Devi for this weekend workshop and learn to find the thread of shakti within you. Swami Jaya Devi is a powerful, insightful teacher whose passion for humanity is evident in her warm teaching style, her wisdom and her deep commitment to living compassion.

The Niyamas, the second limb of the Eight-Limbed Path, are the daily practices that allow us to move towards a space of peace and harmony. We let go of the reactivity of the ego and find balance in our lives internally and externally. Our whole being - mentally, physically and emotionally - feels “enlightened” as we move deeper into these daily practices. These discipines include purity, contentment, discipline, self study and surrender/ devotion. This series will explore each niyama individually through asana, mantra, pranayama, meditation and some journaling, and will provide opportunities to look within ourselves at where these daily practices come more easily and where our inner work lies - so that we may create a deeper sense of wholeness and well being. Both experienced practitioners and beginners are invited.
Five week series: Mondays, starts June 3; from 6-7:15 p.m. - $70 ($60 by May 24; drop-ins welcome)

You will experience meditations that feature yogic breaths (pranayamas), sacred sounds (mantras), as well as hand and finger positions (mudras) which activate the limbic system and different nerve centers, which creates a sealed circuit of energy to deepen your meditation. You will also be lead through a short sequence of gentle yoga postures to relieve the body of tension, creating ease in the body, so you can sit more comfortably in meditation. Yoga is comprised of many forms and techniques that bring you back to a state of wholeness. Meditation is yoga for the mind, pranayama is yoga for the heart and asana is yoga for the body. Please come join Kashi Atlanta Mantra Group as we explore mantras and sounds from around the world. Mantra has been used since antiquity as a tool of transformation in all areas of life: physical, spiritual, financial, relational and intellectual. It is a combination of particular words and sounds that embody different forms of Divine consciousness which promote harmony in all areas of life. The repetition of these specific sounds can open up one’s whole being and help one heal and expand in any area where there is struggle. Mantra can also be used to create specific results by aligning us with the energies we wish to become and bring into our life. Mantra can be done for self or directed to help others toward healing and peace. The ancient Hindu teachings say that chanting a mantra with more than one person exponentially empowers the purpose of the mantra and the energies it carries. If you have never chanted before or even if you have a personal practice, come and enjoy the power and energy that comes from group chant in a sacred space!

Reconnect with your higher self through the disciplines of yoga. In active addiction we are slaves to the lower mind; we have forgotten how to connect with ourselves, our hearts and our source. Through the practices of yoga, one can learn to consume the mind and ultimately overcome addiction.
Many techniques will be shared on the yoga mat which you can employ in your day to day life. We will explore pranayama (breathwork), Kali Natha Yoga (The Yoga of Transformation), mantra, the philosophies of yoga and many meditation techniques specifically addressing addiction.
Through these diverse practices we will cultivate a deeper awareness of both the body and the mind. We will develop compassion for the Self as we study new ways to deal with stressful situations. The yoga classes are approached as a form of both moving prayer and meditation to help bring steadiness of mind and a deeper sense of connection to the self.
